Providing interpreter and translation services for the UK. I built up a large department from a small team of 6. I introduced development best practices with agile/scrum techniques across 9 development squads, plus a dedicated, independent test team.
Quality across all three product lines improved from an error-capture rate of approximately 0.05% to 92.7% in two years. Every squad now operates with SMART objectives per feature, and each developer and tester has a personal development plan — all linked to department and business goals.
AI development practices and ongoing tech assessments are in place, delivering a sustained ~30% increase in performance and quicker delivery to live, while continuously evaluating the latest AI tools and frameworks.
Developed and tested production systems for gas & electricity smart meters for the UK market, with operations spanning Romania, Poland, Thailand, Mexico, Greece and Malaysia. Maintained several production operating systems and application software across multiple infrastructure technologies, languages and frameworks.
Established new teams across the world. Consolidated processes and procedures and improved business continuity and emergency support — combining automated statistical process-control monitoring with a tactical out-of-hours support structure. Implemented a new production system from concept to deployment.
Led the team through a change in focus and structure — from old manufacturing-engineering processes to a modern software development and testing approach. Designed and implemented a new system (SMKI) for handling gas smart-meter security credentials during production and delivery, involving 19 people across 4 teams.
Used Linux systems running C and C++; a web-based API portal in PHP. Also upgraded electric-meter systems, migrating from MS SQL to HANA, with code written in C# on .NET. Electric-meter code lived in Microsoft TFS, gas-meter code in Bazaar. Security signatures used an in-house web API communicating with HSM units for secure key storage, plus SAP API interfaces to record material consumption in production.
Responsible for quality processes across both the UK manufacturing production systems and R&D quality compliance. Audited the entire gas-metering production site and R&D department, applying a maturity model (TPM and TMM) to gauge effectiveness and capability. Findings were presented to stakeholders with recommendations, leading to significant change — especially in the test teams.
Managed day-to-day people activities: hours, overtime, shift cover for production, objectives, reviews, performance tracking, training, holidays, sick leave and a few disciplinaries. Employed 6 Sigma drive and improvements throughout.
Software developer responsible for web-based reporting tools and production software systems, as part of a small team of 4. Maintained systems and provided support across multiple production sites, working regularly with stakeholders from various countries on a wide variety of projects.
Led a small test team within a much larger test department, working on 2G and 3G mobile telecoms in R&D. My team was primarily responsible for automation of test systems. I also acted as a test-implementation specialist for customers worldwide — helping them set up test teams and understand the features we provided — and ran a wide variety of functional and non-functional test suites.
If this resonates, I'd be happy to discuss the possibilities.
